Method / preparation

Why we spent a week preparing before the first post.

Project Monet used approximately 15–21 October 2026 to prepare Rune Gibril's identity, positioning, content direction and account before publishing. The goal was an audience ahead of a planned 2028 book, so the launch began with poetry. The first Reel's later success supports further testing of that direction; it does not prove that a week of preparation guarantees virality.

Start with what the audience is being built for

A book planned for 2028 creates a different Instagram brief from a product launch next month. There was no immediate sales conversion to optimise. The first task was to build a relevant public identity and earn enough interest for people to return.

That goal ruled out treating every possible view as equally useful. Poetry, literary culture and thoughtful observation gave the account an editorial territory connected to the author's ambition. Anonymous positioning also meant the account had to communicate through its public identity and material without relying on a personal reveal.

What the preparation period actually means

The project record places the Rune Gibril naming decision on 15 October. The account and creator analytics were checked by 17 October, when public-source research was also underway. The first Reel was published on 21 October.

Those dated steps support an approximately one-week preparation period. They do not mean one person completed seven full working days of strategy. The useful point is the order: objective and identity first, account preparation and content direction next, then publication and measurement.

An editorial hypothesis we could test

Mary Oliver was a deliberate poetry-first entry point. The hypothesis was that a recognisable reading could attract people already inclined to listen to poetry. The new account could then develop within a literary and cultural world those people understood.

The baseline was small enough to make the launch easy to observe: zero posts and one follower. Once the Reel was published, views described distribution, while saves, shares and Reel-attributed follows offered additional signals of response. No single metric established that the audience would become loyal readers.

What the breakout told us—and what still needed work

The first Reel passed 334,000 views at its 24-hour checkpoint. That made the poetry direction worth continuing to investigate. It also changed the task from simply getting discovered to learning what people would respond to next.

The response could have reflected the poet, the reading, the presentation, the topic or their combination. We cannot isolate those causes from one post. Testing adjacent literary and cultural material was therefore the next step, alongside building the account's own identity.

Use preparation to make better decisions

The practical lesson is to decide the goal, audience and editorial territory before turning publication into a quota. Then publish something that tests those choices and record the result with a date and a clear metric definition.

For Rune Gibril, the first post delivered an unusually strong opening. The work after that opening is to earn repeated interest, develop original work and keep testing. A well-prepared launch gives that work direction; it does not remove uncertainty.
